Lincoln-Way, ranked No. 17 among Chicago area baseball teams, hadits 13-game winning streak snapped by Rich South 9-4 Saturday inRichton Park.

Craig Cappel batted in four runs with a three-run homer andsacrifice fly and Andy Olezak had a two-run homer as Rich South(13-8) scored five in the fourth inning. Dave Bernhard and ScottShuster homered for Lincoln-Way (16-4).

BEIRUT (AP) — The discovery of three corpses with their eyes gouged out set off a sectarian killing spree that left 30 people dead in a chilling sign that the Syrian revolt against President Bashar Assad is enflaming long-simmering religious tensions.

Ga. pastor, father-to-be killed in drug sting

Plainclothes officers shot and killed a small-town pastor when the 28-year-old father-to-be resisted efforts to question him about a passenger in his car who was the target of a drug sting, authorities said.

Jonathan Paul Ayers of Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Lavonia wasn't targeted in the probe that ended in gunfire at a gas station Tuesday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said. But drug task-force agents opened fire on him after he tried to avoid them, putting his car in reverse and striking one of the officers.

For 12 minutes, Mather traded blows with host Deerfield Saturdaynight in a matchup of unbeatens.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's battered opposition Labor Party has turned to an outspoken female journalist to revive its fortunes, bringing a fresh face to the Israeli political stage.

Shelly Yacimovich, 51, was declared the winner of the centrist party's leadership primary after a runoff late Wednesday, garnering 54 percent of the vote compared to 45 percent support for her rival and one-time political mentor Amir Peretz, a former party leader who also served as defense minister. Two other candidates were ousted in a first round of voting last week.

Sharks' Blake retires after decorated NHL career

Early in his 20th season, Rob Blake realized that this would be his final one as an NHL player.

Even as he performed at the level of a player younger than his 40 years, helping the San Jose Sharks reach the Western Conference final, he didn't waver. Blake made his decision official on Friday, announcing his retirement from a career that will most likely end at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Spears faces 2 more weeks in psychiatric care

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears' stay in a psychiatric ward wasextended for two weeks under a section in state law that allowspatients to be kept for medical treatment if they are found to begravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others, a person closeto the pop star told The Associated Press.

Spears was to be released Sunday from UCLA Medical Center'spsychiatric ward after undergoing a 72-hour mental evaluation.

But doctors and a ward medical officer cited California law tokeep her longer, said the person close to Spears, who requestedanonymity.

Spears' detainment made it unlikely she would appear at ascheduled Monday morning hearing over custody of her children, 1-year-old Jayden James and 2-year-old Sean Preston.

Spears, 26, lost custody of the boys to ex-husband KevinFederline following an incident last month when she refused toreturn the children after a visit.

Spears was briefly hospitalized at the time. On Thursday, she wasagain hospitalized.

On Friday, Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled that Spears neededsomeone else to take over her personal and financial affairs.

Spears' father, James, and her attorney, Andrew Wallet, weregranted conservatorship, but a court hearing was scheduled thisafternoon to review the matter.

A UCLA Medical Center spokesman did not immediately return aphone message Sunday seeking comment. Calls to Wallet and attorneySorrell Trope also were not returned.
