Farley64,796 Stratton54,059 SCHENECTADY -- In the most-fiercely contested 44th state Senate District campaign in memory, 24-year incumbent Republican Sen. Hugh Farley defeated Democratic challenger and Schenectady City Councilman Brian Stratton.
With all 267 precincts reporting, Farley out polled Stratton by a vote of 64,796 to 54,059.
Farley declared victory late Tuesday at his campaign headquarters at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia. He attributed his victory to ``the nastiness'' of his opponent, which he contended ``did not sell well in my district.''
